Supergroover: Rufus & Chaka Khan
Rufus furono una funk band di Chicago, Illinois, formatasi nel 1969; meglio conosciuti per aver lanciato al successo internazionale la cantante Chaka Khan. Considerati sin dagli esordi un supergruppo: il batterista John Robinson, il chitarrista Tony Maiden, il tastierista David "Hawk" Wolinski (che negli anni settanta suonava contemporaneamente con i Chicago), i bassisti Bobby Watson e Willie Weeks, oltre ad altri musicisti che si avvicendarono sino all'ultimo album, Seal in Red del 1983. Ebbero svariati successi di classifica con "Tell Me Something Good" (firmata da Stevie Wonder), "Sweet Thing" e "Ain't Nobody".

Soul: Martha & The Vandellas
Martha and the Vandellas (conosciute dal 1967 al 1972 come Martha Reeves and the Vandellas) furono uno dei gruppi di maggiore successo della Motown Records tra il 1963 e il 1967. In contrasto con gli altri gruppi femminili dell'etichetta come The Supremes e The Marvelettes, Martha and the Vandellas, con un crudo sound R&B, piazzarono svariati numeri uno nelle classifiche americane: "(Love Is Like a) Heat Wave," "Nowhere to Run," "Jimmy Mack" e il loro più fortunato successo: "Dancing in the Street."
