The Merseybeats sono un gruppo pop britannico formatosi a Liverpool nel 1962 e tutt'ora in attività. Originariamente chiamati The Mavericks, furono fondati da Tony Crane (17.04.1945, Anfield, Liverpool) e da Billy Kinsley (28.11.1946, Everton, Liverpool); completavano il line-up Aaron Williams (23.06.1942, Liverpool) e John Banks (23.09.1943, Liverpool - 20.04.1988). Firmarono per Fontana Records e incisero alcuni singoli di successo come "It's Love That Really Counts" e soprattutto "I Think of You" che procurò loro il primo disco d'oro. Nel 1964 Billy Kinsley lasciò la band e venne sostituito per un breve periodo da Bob Garner (poi con The Creation) e successivamente da Johnny Gustafson, proveniente da The Big Three. Incisero altri brani fortunati: "Don't Turn Around", "Wishin' and Hopin'", "Last Night", "Don't Let it Happen to Us", "I Love You, Yes I Do", "I Stand Accused", "Mr. Moonlight", "Really Mystified" e "The Fortune Teller". In quel periodo suonarono regolarmente al Cavern Club di Liverpool e grazie ad apparizioni televisive divennero famosi anche in Germania e in Italia. Nel 1966 Crane e Kinsley sciolsero momentaneamente la band per formare il duo The Merseys.
